Amsterdam Event Calendar for September 2017

But September also gives us Elke’s birthday (happy birthday to meeee), enough light and sunshine to get through the day and lot’s of cool events! Enjoy the Amsterdam Event Calendar for September.

For 11 days the Amsterdam Fringe Festival will be presenting theater and dance by talented new, undiscovered and untamed makers at more than 30 venues across Amsterdam. Fringe is open and un-curated. We present a varied program featuring artists from a wide range of backgrounds, origins and futures. The festival is an ode to the madness of the stage and to independence of spirit and it is a plea for artistic freedom. A big, fat, heartfelt embrace of experimentation in the true sense of the word: one whose outcome is able to effect a real surprise. amsterdamfringefestival.nl

These Are The Best Parties On Kingsday 2017!

This needs a little introduction. If you’re not Dutch and you are visiting our country on the 26th/27th of April, you’re in for a treat..
Kingsday 2017 (previously called Queensday) is a true happening in the Netherlands. First of all, we celebrate the Kings birthday and everybody gets a day off work. Secondly, there are a large number of flea markets all throughout the country but Amsterdam is probably the biggest when it comes to selling junk on the streets and organizing parties. The night before Kingsday, which is called Kingsnight (duh), is also worth going out for. There are night markets and a few parties. On Kingsday the real party starts around 12 noon and finishes by 8pm. You can visit the flea markets a lot earlier though. From about 6am you will find children outside on the streets selling their toys. We advise you to check out at least 1 flea market in the morning to experience the real Kingsday.

Pure Markt at the Amstelpark
When? 9th of April
What? A fair, organic market in the Amstelpark
I love this market because it’s in my favorite park in Amsterdam, Amstelpark. A little more far out of the city center but worth paying a visit to on a Sunday. The pure market is a place to explore, discover, taste and learn about all the different foods of Holland (and the rest of the world). Try some Dutch Gouda cheese, Surinam roti, Indian curry, American pie or a freshly chucked oyster. Order an organic beer, coffee or wine to go.

Koningsdag (Kingsday)
When? 27th of April

What? Celebrating the Dutch Kings birthday
On Kingsday the parties start at 12 noon and finish by 8pm. After that you can go to a few clubs. We advise you to check out the flea markets in the morning to experience the real Kingsday. Oh and..dress up in orange. (it’s the new black!)
