Skylounge at Double Tree Hilton
Located next to central station, this rooftop on top of the Double Tree Hilton hotel has one of the best views of central Amsterdam. Dress up nicely because this is not your local hang out. You pay a bit more than usual, but you will feel like royalty (they serve the best sweets with their coffee!). For events and more info visit the website.

W Amsterdam
The WETDECK has recently re-opened so you can enjoy your cocktails on top of the W hotel in Amsterdam. This is the only rooftop in Amsterdam with a pool and people always return to this trendy hotspot. Go here for cocktails and champagne or a jump in the pool. www.wamsterdam.nl

Floor 17
On top of the Ramada Hotel in Amsterdam West, you will find Floor 17. Although it’s a popular hotel for tourist and business trips, this is a rooftop that’s worth the visit. You can sit inside where you can eat in the restaurant or you can enjoy the sunshine outside. They host several events per year and at the moment they feature a huge air-bubble on one side of the rooftop that you can sleep in.

A hidden gem if you ask us! Situated near Amstel Station, this is a wonderful rooftop for after work drinks with your friends. No need to dress up, because casual chill is the dresscode. Just enjoy the sunshine and good conversation. They are only open if it’s dry so check the weather forecast before you head over! www.hotelcasa.nl

Right in the heart of Amsterdam, you will find Blue. You wouldn’t know this place has a rooftop, if no one has told you about it. Many tourist discover it by chance because it’s located near the popular shopping district, inside the Kalvertoren. www.blue-amsterdam.nl

Canvas at the Volkshotel
This rooftop restaurant/bar has been around for years. It still got what it takes. Dinner or lunch, it doesn’t matter because the mood is always good. Their outside area isn’t huge but good enough for us! More info here www.volkshotel.nl/nl/canvas

Bonus:
Let’s not forget about the ADAM Tower across the Central Station. It’s not free to go to the top but the view from is magnificent once you get there. What you can also do is, swing over the edge. Only for daredevils though!

Let’s get ready for summer in the city!

13 x Best Terraces In Amsterdam West

The sun is out and so are the people. During the week, people run out of their offices when the clock hits five and try to find the best spot to enjoy the last sun-rays of the day. In the weekends you need to be quick because the best sunny spots go fast. So where exactly are those places? Well, as Amsterdam West is my area, I did a little research and came to the conclusion that these are the best places where you can enjoy the sunlight until it goes down.

Yumler
This place just opened (read our review) and when I walked in last week, they were just installing their outside terrace. It’s the perfect place for your Friday night drinks as they host a few parties now and then. www.yumler.nl

De school
Too cool for school? Well, not this one! Not far from Yumler, you will find this hotspot. Besides being an awesome nightclub with some of the biggest underground DJ’s, it’s also the house of a wonderful restaurant, cafe and gym with a large terrace! www.deschoolamsterdam.nl

Cafe Zurich
Probably one of my favorite terraces in Amsterdam West! It’s large and wide with many seats available. The service is good and the drinks are cold. Just what you need when the sun is out. Read more about Zurich here.

Frits
Across Zurich you will find bar Frits on the same square they call “Mecatorplein”. They serve a large range of beers so it’s always buzzing until the sun goes down and that’s when people go inside the bar. www.frits-amsterdam.nl

Bureau
Opened last year, this is rooftop heaven. You must visit Bureau if you haven’t been! Enjoy the garden, chickens and sunshine. It’s probably one of our favorite terraces in Amsterdam West. For more pictures and impressions, check our article.

Razmataz
An oldie but still a goodie. It’s also great for people watching as it’s situated next to a roundabout. www.razmataz.nl

Staal
A bit tucked away in between the World Fashion Center and an apartment complex, it’s the perfect terrace for after work drinks or your afternoon coffee in the sun. www.staal.bar

De Bakkerswinkel
Great coffee, and tasty scones! We love this place right at the entrance of Westerpark. Oh, and the outside area at the back of the Bakkerswinkel is pretty good too. Nothing fancy but great for friends and people with babies. www.debakkerswinkel.nl

Mossel & Gin
Oysters and Gin are a great combination and you can get the best over at Mossel & Gin. Drink cocktails and eat until the sun goes down. Right on the Westergas area, this cozy terrace is great for catching up with friends! www.mosselengin.nl

Westergasterras
Also on the Westergas, you will find this extremely large terrace that is partly covered and there is an open lounge area where you want to sit for days, looking over the water. They have just restyled so have a look!  www.westergasterras.nl

Cedars
Not many people have heard of this restaurant because it’s situated below the A10 highway and the road that leads to Hoofddorpplein. It has some of the best outside seating in Amsterdam West, believe me. It’s overlooking the water and you can order some tasty Lebanese bites. Service can be a bit slow but if you don’t mind that, you will love it! www.cedars.nl

Restaurant Bureau » Amsterdam’s Hidden Rooftop

This could well be one of Amsterdam’s best kept secrets. Restaurant Bureau is a rooftop restaurant in Amsterdam West with a story of it’s own. Bureau Amsterdam is part of B-Amsterdam. The building was originally build for the IBM headquarters but when they departed it was empty for 12 years until it finally became a new opportunity for start-up businesses. You can book a work spot for as little as 75 euro’s per month or if you’re beginning a new venture you can rent office space and share the building with tons of creative people. You can find restaurant Bureau in a secluded area where you will find businesses, hospitals and other industrial buildings. But this place is definitely worth the extra bicycle ride.

The Rooftop
This one is different than any rooftop you will come across. The rooftop garden was designed and built by Rooftop Doctors and GrownDownTown and you can compare it to a fun park with lot’s of green. There are old car wrecks, a small beach area and a pont with fish. You want a fresh mint tea? You can pick it yourself from the herb garden! Wanna play some Jeu de Boules? No problem. 75% that grows here, you can eat. Herbs and plants are maintained by recycled rainwater that falls on the roof. They even have a strawberry hill with several types of strawberries and a hen of chickens that provide the restaurant with some daily fresh eggs.

Rooftop Restaurant Bureau Amsterdam

The Restaurant
Bureau only opened a few weeks ago and you can feel the buzz, even if they intentionally didn’t want to promote it. “We want our customers by word of mouth and let them experience it for themselves.”- Explains manager Laurens. I was dying to see it so I walked in last Friday to see it with my own eyes. The interior is spacious, yet cozy with a bar molded out of the steel plates that once lay on the roof. The lights are all individually made and you can pull a cord in order to change their height. If you look closely, you can see that they are made out of porcelain plates! Chef Niels Veenvliet (you may know him from restaurant Choux), works with a new menu every 2 months so people come back to taste different flavors. If you love wine you might like the fact that they serve Vinos Naturales at restaurant Bureau. This basically means nothing weird is added and you drink the wine in it’s purest vorm. This may taste a bit different than you’re used to but I loved it!

Something unique, the lights at restaurant Bureau

When the sun is out, you have plenty of choice

When you have dinner, you will receive a small amuse and you can bet on it that they’ve used something from the garden. I ordered the fish soup with langoustine as a starter and the vegetarian risotto as a main course. Both very tasty in their own right plus the bread they serve at restaurant Bureau is to die for. When you’re a dessert kind of person, make sure you order a coffee because it’s roasted by a Dutch label named Moyee coffee. They focus on Fairtrade so the farmers in the country of origin (Ethiopia) get their fair share.
