A little booklet fell on our doormat last week and immediately drew our attention. An invite with a detailed introduction of a new food & drink concept in Amsterdam: Jackson Dubois. Jackson Dubois is a fictive character that traveled around the world being inspired by food and drinks. He took all these impressions and flavors back to Amsterdam for us to taste.
The invitation couldn’t be anymore like us! (wearing wanderlust watches)
“Through my travels I have learned that the people who love to eat are always the best people” – Jackson Dubois
Last night we visited the restaurant which is situated inside the Esprit Cafe in the center of Amsterdam. Esprit Cafe is a place to eat lunch and drink coffee but it was never open at night. Until now. At 6pm something rather special is happening at this location. A voiceover is played and we hear Mr. Jackson Dubois talking about the concept and his travels. The lights change and the bar completely transforms. A big world map is put on display and more travel items appear. Music starts to play and the Esprit Cafe has changed into something that you want to come back for. Jackson Dubois is on.
When the transition happens..
The food concept is really cool. They serve street food from all over the world. Like authentic Roti from Suriname, truffle Pizza from Italy (served in a mini pizza box!), falafel from Lebanon or healthy springrolls from Vietnam. We ordered the pizza, falafel, pumpkin salad, lobster hotdogs (yes, really) and the springrolls. Besides the street food, you can order up to 22 champagnes and 50 craft beers from all over the world. To finish your meal experience, you should order 1 or 2 desserts. We ordered the hot Chocolate Pie and Creme Brulee. Both delicious and presented in a yet another creative way.

The Chocolate pie features a temperature meter which has strawberry syrup inside.
They thought of everything; The napkins, glasses, plates and food boxes have the Jackson Dubois logo on it. A job well done. Situated right next to Amsterdam’s shopping high street, it’s an area which attracts many tourist. We must say, that the location is not an area where a lot of locals come and eat but things might change around here and if so, Jackson Dubois will have something to do with it.
